Cadre Damage in Cotton

Cadre (imazapic) carryover damage is showing up in cotton stands throughout the county. Some yield loss is to be expected depending on the severity of the case. Growers who continue to follow peanuts with cotton should be wary of using imazapic to control weeds. When imazapic is used, there is an 18 month rotation restriction for cotton. High pH can increase severity of damage and it is not recommended to apply lime to a field with a pH higher than 6.0 where peanuts were planted and imazapic was applied last season. To get away from Cadre in your spray program, consider applications of Cobra/Blazer + Dual and/or Gramoxone + Storm + Dual. Starting with a clean seedbed and residual herbicides are the best way to prevent weed competition in our fields. In the picture below, you can see the yellowing and some leaves cupping in response to Cadre.
